The
village of Kennetcook is nestled among green, wooded slopes along
the bank of the Kennetcook River in Hants County, Nova
Scotia. The picturesque village proudly maintains its
"small town" sensibilities, but is nonetheless a forward
looking community, with many development projects underway.
One is the creation of an Art Gallery (opened summer 2006),
encompassing several rooms in the old Kennetcook hotel, a charming
Heritage building with crisp white clapboards, bright red roof and
full length veranda.

The Kennetcook Society for Economic and
Environmental Development (KSEED), believes arts and culture are vital to the growth of the
community in many ways. The Art Gallery and Workshop are
located in the former Kennetcook Hotel, one of several heritage
buildings still in use in the Kennetcook village centre.
Kennetcook is a growing community
and is preparing for the future. Area residents..."believe arts and culture are central to our community's
economic and social development." The art gallery space has
been donated by a local business whose owners share the vision.
The Place Near and Far Art Gallery
and Workshop is a project of the Kennetcook Society for
Economic and Environmental Development, a non profit
organization since 2006.

The 'big' project for the coming 2010
season is a large 'community canvas', depicting a
covered bridge in a country setting. The basic scene was
originally roughed in by the Working Group and
contributors are now invited to add details such as roof
shingles, windows, fences and foliage, and many, many
rocks! The finished work (accompanied by a
document naming all the contributing artists), will be
auctioned in June of 2010, with proceeds going to
benefit Hants North High School Drama Club's planned
trip to the prestigious Edinburg Drama Festival. |
